Can cultures wage war?

Monday, 05 March, 2007: Ivo Zanic
The author of several books and many essays on public language, media discourse, political propaganda and symbols, Ivo Zanic teaches in the faculty of political science at the University of Zagreb. His 'Flag on the Mountain: a political anthropology of war in Croatia and Bosnia' (hardback, 565 pp., £35)was published in February 2007 by Saqi Books in association with The Bosnian Institute. At our March forum a humorous and stimulating talk on the ways in which symbolic events and popular myths may be used by political elites for the purpose of mobilization was followed by a lively discussion, at this our last monthly forum in the current series.
